Judy Bedell, Functional Aging Specialist, has worked with older seniors and special populations for over 30 years. Her education in leisure studies and gerontology, coupled with hands-on roles to improve programs, services, education, community, safety, and fitness opportunities to seniors, students, staff, family members, care providers, volunteers and so on – makes Judy Bedell uniquely qualified to provide a wide range of services to her clients.  

 

Judy has been involved with the Canadian Centre for Activity and Aging since 1992 and has been on the forefront of viewing aging from a positive, practical and holistic lens, bringing research to action. 

 

She has developed numerous tailor-made talks, workshops and courses for a variety of clients including Department of Foreign Affairs, Algonquin College, Ottawa Public Health, The Good Companions, Breast Cancer Action Ottawa, Ottawa Community Support Coalition, Reaching Out to Isolated Seniors, Church groups, Volunteers, Retirement Homes, and other community groups and associations.

Judy helps individuals, families, and organizations to strengthen their resources by investing in regular, functional, physical activity, fall prevention programs, and addressing the challenges in living a long life all meanwhile navigating through:

  • health and community care systems, ​​gaps in services, unrealistic or false expectations of care

  • ​gaps in knowledge (and training) in aging 

  • family systems or lack thereof

  • caregiver/care partner care burnout

  • ​end of life conversations and considerations

​
